Position Objectives:
The purpose of the Deputy EMS Chief is to manage the day-to-day operations of the ambulance service. The Deputy Chief will oversee the Ambulance Service’s personnel and equipment, scheduling, supply, and ordering. The Deputy EMS Chief is the frontline personnel manager. The Deputy EMS Chief works with the EMS Chief to maintain a successful and sustainable EMS service. The Deputy Chief assumes the role of interim Chief when needed.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Monitor the overall performance of the ambulance service, recommend and implement change as necessary.
- Utilize Just Culture to investigate and manage incidents.
- Utilize progressive discipline to manage insubordination and policy deviations.
- Responsible for maintaining current records of the licensure of EMTs and EMRs.
- Monitor scheduling compliance.
- Attend ambulance advisory board meetings.
- Oversee demand analysis and ensure personnel coverage.
- Oversee the service’s supplies.
- Purchase needed supplies through authorized vendors.
- Attend and participate in City and/or County committees and groups.
- Conduct the monthly Ambulance Service meeting.
- Ensure Service compliance with Federal, State, and Local laws.
- Act as the agency’s Designated Infection Control Officer (DICO).
- Respond to emergency calls or transfers when needed as their licensure allows.
- Manage the timekeeping of Ambulance Service personnel.
- Audit ePCRs for BLS care practices.
- Oversee the training of new Ambulance Service personnel.
- Is available for urgent administrative tasks 24/7/365.
Minimum Requirements:
- NREMT and MN EMT certifications
- NRP and MN Paramedic certifications
- AHA instructor
- NAEMT instructor
- Experience as a Field Training Officer in EMS or public safety
- DICO certification
- City of Jackson Resident
Desirable Training and Experience:
- Experience as a clinical provider (minimum one year EMT on an ambulance)
- NREMT and MN EMT certifications
- Leadership experience (general- minimum one year)
- EMS management experience
- Experience training others
- Desire to learn and continue education
This is a salaried position with primary job responsibilities taking place Monday-Friday but weekend hours may be required.
