Position Objectives:

The EMS Apprentice is an individual who is interested in beginning a career in EMS. This individual will have opportunities to shadow EMRs, EMTs, and Paramedics to determine their suitability for the industry. The EMS Apprentice will be sponsored and supported by Jackson Ambulance Service to obtain their EMT education and licensure.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance of HIPAA regulations.
  • Operate an ambulance
  • Operate various medical equipment
  • Be an active student. Ask questions, seek help, and remain organized.

Minimum Requirements:

Eligibility:

The EMS Apprentice will need to be eligible for EMS licensure. Eligibility includes but is not limited to:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid drivers license
  • No felony convictions
  • The ability to read and write English at the high school level
  • The ability to take a written and online academic exams
  • The ability to bend, kneel, squat, sit, stand, and lift 150 pounds.

Desirable Training and Experience:

Healthcare experience is preferred but not required. Previous CPR certification or lifeguard certification is a plus. 

The EMS Apprentice will be paid Minnesota minimum wage while shadowing and while in class. Once the EMS Apprentice begins their EMS education, tuition will be paid for by Jackson Ambulance service in exchange for 1 year of service (or the hour equivalent) post licensure. The EMS Apprentice will also receive EMT pay after successful licensure.
